What started out as a disused chicken shed in Barnet – hence the name – the Chickenshed, is now a lively theatre complex.
It has four performance spaces: The Rayne Theatre, which seats 300, a smaller Studio Theatre and an Amphitheatre and bar/restaurant that hosts music and comedy evenings.

This award-winning art centre hosts theatre productions for young children throughout the year. It offers a range of entertainment, from performances of favourite children’s books to puppetry and seasonal pantomimes.
A number of productions are geared towards children aged 13+. There are orchestra performances, artistic circus, comedy shows and more.

Age suitability: There are ongoing shows for babies, young children and older children. For most family performances, children under 18 months are considered ‘babes in arms’, so they don’t need a ticket.
If they become unsettled, you may be given a friendly invitation to step out of the auditorium for a while, to avoid interrupting the performance.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over.
Family-friendly facilities include baby changing units in the toilets on three levels. There’s a nice café serving sandwiches, snacks and hot drinks. On Monday to Friday during term time you’ll find salads and hot foods.

Jacksons Lane

This small theatre on the Archway Road offers a year-round programme of circus performances, plays, and comedy and dance shows; many of which are suitable for children and families.
Productions range from classic fairy tales to interactive magic shows.

Little Angel Theatre

This charming theatre located on a quaint side street in Islington specialises in storytelling with puppetry and drama.
Favourite children’s books are brought to life, along with new shows and musicals. Performances take place at two venues, so check when you book which one you’ll be attending.
While not as large as some of the other north London theatres, what stands out from audiences’ feedback is the wonder and imagination that goes into the sets and productions. The warm, accommodating welcome from theatre staff is also often noted.

Park Theatre
Location: Finsbury Park, N4
A two-minute walk from Finsbury Park station, Park Theatre offers family-friendly entertainment as well as drama, music and comedy for adults.

If you’re attending in a group, maybe for a birthday outing, you get the 11th ticket free when you buy 10 tickets. Group bookings must include one adult for every three children.
